The Art of Books:

Apr. 26th, 2005 02:13 pm Greetings from Lee Castle....

Good evening! I am typing this from Boston, Massachusetts in my clay studio. First off, I want to say how excited I am about writing you all of you and hearing from you. Please feel free to be honest and ask me questions. I find that hearing what people think or want to know about my work makes me a more careful and interesting artist.

Let me tell you a bit about myself. I am 35 years old and I have studied Ceramics since I was only four. I love clay because it puts us in touch with earth (the clay comes from the ground) fire (the kiln or oven we bake clay in) water (a part of the clay, and a tool to keep it soft) and air (used to dry out the clay and to bake it). Clay is such a natural and wonderful thing.

Now I am going to share a few of my works relating to the book arts. As I have also studied and taught English, I like to use words that express ideas or things people say.

This photograph shows a book made out of brown stoneware clay after it has been fired once in the electric kiln, glazed with turquoise glaze (a kind of glass-like paint for clay) and fired another time in the gas kiln.

Thank you for reading about my art. Have a wonderful day and hope to hear from you soon!

Apr. 26th, 2005 10:42 am Welcome from Book Art Museum!

Greetings! You have arrived at the Book Arts Forum Page for the "Entering the Book" Exhibition. This is a very special space where teen artists can have conversations with adult book artists. Others can also read and respond to these conversations. I hope that you enjoy looking at and responding to this project. Together we can create a sort of living book that will keep growing! Enjoy!

Sincerely yours,
